February 2025: How We've Been Able to Respond to Recent Emergencies
"There's good news and bad news" is never a great thing to hear, but the truth is that every day holds highs and lows—some higher and some lower than others. While we usually focus on our Ravens youth in the Youth Empowerment Program (YEP), the Ravens community that Abel and Mildred serve goes beyond the YEP and right now, there is a lot going on in the broader Ravens community and in Abel and Mildred's church community.
The truly good news is that, because of your generosity and support, Abel and Mildred have been able to respond quickly with the care and resources needed. Abel shared a few updates with us that we wanted to pass on:
Restoring Hope for a Young Boy
Jerry, a 13 year-old boy who lost his father to COVID-19, was facing significant challenges, including affording school fees and medical care. Jerry was experiencing problems with his dental health and we were able to facilitate dental appointments for Jerry. He has begun an 18-month treatment plan.
Addressing Severe Tonsillitis
Melissa, a 16 year-old from the community has been battling severe tonsillitis for six years. Despite initial treatments, her condition has persisted. We are supporting her ongoing treatment, and the doctor has recommended a procedure if the current regimen is unsuccessful.
In addition to these two young people, Abel and Mildred have been working with three other families in the community who have been facing extreme hardship: a father recently diagnosed with severe arthritis and diabetes; a church member whose seven-month-old child passed away after an illness; and the mother of one of our Ravens Youth, who was in a major car accident.
These past several weeks have been a real challenge for Abel, Mildred, and the community.
Abel writes: "Our emergency response efforts have made a tangible difference in the lives of those we serve. Ravens continues to remain committed to providing critical support to individuals in need, restoring hope and dignity to our community. We express our gratitude to our donors and supporters for their generous contributions, which have enabled us to respond."
We want to say a special thank-you to those of you who have contributed to the Emergency Medical Fund. The resources you provide are lifesaving and help to create a safety net for the Ravens community that would not exist otherwise. Thank you!
